You may remember that I wrote in a previous post, about the WanderTours Giving Program and how it’s an important feature of each of our international tours. Giving back to the countries that we visit is important to us and we usually pick a cause that supports the women of that country. In Bhutan we support an organization that we strongly believe in, RENEW. And with three tours to Bhutan this year, we’ll have plenty of opportunity to help.
This NGO focuses on assisting and empowering disadvantaged women in Bhutan, with RENEW being an acronym for Respect, Educate, Nurture and Empower Women. The only organization of its kind in Bhutan, it was established in 2004 by the Queen of Bhutan with the intention of becoming the leading institution in the country for shaping the role of women in Bhutanese society. The goal is to eradicate gender-based violence while following its mission to improve the lives of victims of domestic violence (including children) and to integrate them back into their communities as independent, socially and economically productive members of society.
One of the goals of our epic adventure this September, the Snowman Trek, is to raise funds to help fund one of RENEW’s shelters. Thanks to generous sponsors such as X-Shot and Expedia, we’ll be able to do just that. If you’d like to join us on the trek or visit Bhutan on our annual Women-Only Festival Tour in October, give us a call (206-317-1860) or Contact Us via email and we’ll be happy to answer any questions you might have!
Embrace life,
Pat
