WanderTours Announces Tour to Myanmar (Burma)
Seattle, WA – April 7, 2014– WanderTours is bringing back its tour to Myanmar from February 15-27, 2015. Myanmar (formerly called Burma) is an emerging destination—pristine and undiscovered by Western tourists. Where most of the rest of Southeast Asia is now firmly on the beaten travel path, Myanmar has been quietly slumbering. WanderTours is thrilled to lead a tour to this dazzling country filled with pagodas, stupas and public markets.
And right now is an excellent time to visit—before it breaks through into being a popular tourist destination.
Tour leader and WanderTours founder Beth Whitman says, “We’re thrilled to be returning to Myanmar with one of our small-group tours. Though tourist facilities are still a bit limited, this means a more authentic experience for those interested in touring this Southeast Asian country now.”
The 13-day, women-only tour will visit selected cultural sites throughout the country, including a lamp lighting ceremony at Shwedagon Pagoda, markets and pagodas in Yangon, and the ancient stupas and pagodas of Bagan. As with all WanderTours journeys, we seek not only to see the sights, but to connect with the culture. In Myanmar, we will visit monasteries, learn to prepare regional recipes, and visit factories where items vital to the economy are produced from lotus-fiber clothing to cigarettes. The tour will even cross over a 200-year-old bridge, in fact the world’s longest teak bridge!
As part of the WanderTours Giving Program, part of the tour proceeds will go to purchase lunch for the hundreds of nuns at Sagaing Nunnery. The tour group will then have the special honor of serving lunch to the nuns, considered an honor in the Buddhist tradition.
This tour is for women only and limited to 15 women. Land cost is $4,850, not including flights or single-person supplements. A deposit of $800 is required to secure a spot. Full payment is due no later than December 15, 2014.
