Tribal-Mother-BabyThere are at least ten different hill tribes living in Northern Thailand and Laos. Many originate from other areas of Southeast Asia and China and have landed in this relatively peaceful area as refugees. Most of them eke out a living by hunting and farming and selling their traditional handicrafts.

On our Northern Thailand and Laos Hill Tribe Cultural Tour we will meet people from many of the tribes, learn about their traditions and beliefs and admire their handiwork. (Psst, you’ll have plenty of time for shopping in the villages we visit!)

The tour begins in Bangkok, where we’ll spend a few days visiting popular attractions, such as the Reclining Buddha and the Grand Palace with its Emerald Buddha and the home of Jim Thompson, credited with making silk manufacturing a huge business for Thailand.

The food in this area is out-of-this-world and we’ll spend time learning about the ingredients and how to use them in hands-on cooking classes.

In Laos we’ll participate in a traditional Lao Buddhist ceremony, visit some hill tribe villages and enjoy a traditional boat ride on the mystical Mekong River.

Highlights of this tour include:Elephant-River

  • Visit the homes of Thai artisans
  • Explore markets including the flower market in Bangkok and the night markets in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai
  • Visit the Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai. This is a rescue and rehabilitation site for abused and neglected Asian elephants. We’ll have the chance to feed and bathe them, too!
  • Watch an early morning procession of monks collect alms

Don’t wait too long to book! Give us a call 206-317-1860 or contact us via email and we’ll be happy to answer any questions you might have!

Embrace life,

Pat
